- Entering Content Creation Mode
- Log in to the game.
- If you are a Gold member, on the Character Selection screen, click on the "Create Content" tab. (Silver players can also gain access to making Foundry content by purchasing slots for Dilithium.)
- Create a new character for creating content. This is a test character only and is completely separate from people playing the game on Holodeck.
- Enter all required information to create a character.
- Click the "Create Content" button
- Click "New Project" in order to begin creating content.
- Enter a name for your project. This will be the initial name of your mission, but the name can be changed on the next screen. Loading a new project will take about a minute.
- Now, you will be at the main Foundry screen. Enter a description for your mission in the description box, and you're ready for the next steps!
- Creating a Mission
- Create a Map.
- From the main Foundry screen, click on the Maps tab in the left menu.
- Click on "Create Map" to make a new map.
- Select a map type: Space, Ground or Interior.
- Select a premade map to customize for your mission, like Defera Space.
- Enter a name for the map. This will show up on the player's loading screen and above their mini-map while they are on this map.
- You will then be at the Map Edit screen.
- We will return here after we create story elements, and we can place them on the map.
- Create a Story.
- Click on the Story tab.
- The first thing we'll add is a pop-up dialog to begin the story.
- Click and drag the pop-up dialog option to the middle of the two flags. This will add a pop-up dialog flow to your mission.
- The text entered into the "Text" field will appear in the pop-up dialog box when the mission begins, or after you complete the objective previous to the pop-up dialog in the mission.
- Available text variables to use in pop up or contact dialogs:
- [NickName] : Prints the character's nickname.
- [LastName] : Prints the formal last name of the character.
- [FirstName] : Prints the formal first name of the character.
- [Rank] : Prints the player's current Starfleet or Klingon Rank. (e.g. Vice Admiral.)
- [ShipName] : Prints the informal name of the player's ship. (e.g. Enterprise.)
- [ShipFullName] : Prints the formal name of the player's ship. (e.g. U.S.S. Enterprise.)
- [ShipRegistry] : Prints the full registry number of the player's ship (e.g. N.C.C. 1701.)
- [ShipType] : Prints the type of the player's ship. (e.g. Galaxy Class Cruiser.)
- Font styles
- [MissionInfo] [/MissionInfo]: This styles text bold and green, drawing the player's attention to particular statements or instructions.
- Once the pop-up dialog is complete, we'll make a contact point to start the mission. Click and drag a "Talk to Contact" mission piece into the flow after the pop-up dialog.
- The Mission Text box will be what shows in the mission tracker section.
- The Actor will be the person you need to talk to in order to complete this portion of the mission. Select an actor to hook this up to in Earth Space Dock.
- The "Text" will be what the contact says when you activate him.
- The "Style" is the mood or animation the character will use in the dialog box.
- You can set Waypoints to Automatic, and the player will be able to see a white circle on the mini-map around the contact's location.
- Next, we'll create an encounter to kill some space guys in your map.
- Drag a "Kill Enemies" mission objective after the "Talk to the Contact" objective.
- The name you enter will be the name of the mission portion that shows in the mission tracker. We will place the encounter on our map in a moment.
- Place a pop-up dialog and place some congratulatory text to complete the mission flow.
- Place necessary components on mission maps.
- Return to the Maps tab.
- Click on the Unplaced tab on the right side. This will have all the components that need to be placed before your map is complete.
- Click and drag the components to place them on the space map where you would like them.
- Select the Kill Encounter.
- You can change the name, placement by coordinates and the Encounter type.
- Click on the Encounter button to select what type of enemy will show up in the map.
- You can select any race and power level to place in your mission. Be warned: Some of the more powerful encounter types may restrict your mission to certain higher levels.
- Complete Mission.
- This should give you the basics for your first complete mission. Now we will go through the steps to save and publish your mission.
- Go to the file menu and click save to make sure all of your latest changes are saved to the server.
- Click on the Project tab to return to the main project screen.
- You can rename your mission here or add or change any information that may have changed during mission creation.
- When you are finished, make sure to save your project again.
- Click the Publish button to make your mission playable. Publishing your mission may take upwards of five minutes.
- Playing your mission.
- Exit the editor.
- Log in to the game with your account.
- Select the "Regular Play" tab.
- Select your character.
- Click the play button in the bottom right corner.
- Once in game, hail Starfleet or the KDF.
- Select "Community Authored" on the left sidebar.
- Search for your mission in this box.
- Click on the mission and click Accept Mission.
- Enjoy your mission!
- General Use Tips
- Save your project with the "Save" option under the file menu. Saving your project often is a good habit to avoid losing work.
- Use the "Exit Editor" option to return to the login screen. There you can change back to normal play modes or change projects. You will need to log in again.
- To log in with an existing character:
- Click on the Create Content tab on the login screen.
- Select a UGC character.
- Click the "Create Content" login button.
- Select your project from the left menu and click "Edit Project".
Read the Foundry End User License Agreement. If you agree with these terms, click "Yes" and you may proceed.
