Exploring Q’s Winter Wonderland
One of the most important aspects of putting together a Winter Event is that it has to be both entertaining and rewarding. It’s all fine and dandy for Q to set up a Winter Wonderland to stomp around in, but there must be a reason to visit and rewards to be had!
To that end, we’re offering players the opportunity to obtain a series of Holiday Collectibles which can be traded for various prizes. Complete Q’s challenge at the ice track and he will reward you with a gift wrapped in festive green paper which contains several Holiday Collectibles. When you have some Holiday Collectibles, visit one of the residents of Q’s Winter Wonderland to trade them in for prizes.
Among the easiest prizes to obtain are holiday-themed food items that, in addition to functioning just like any other food in Star Trek Online, each offer a 10-minute boost for ground combat. However, you may wish to jealously guard your hoard of sweets as nearby tribbles will find them just as delicious as you do! Who knows what will happen if your favorite furry companion consumes one of Q’s mystical holiday treats…
If food doesn’t strike your fancy, feel free to trade your Holiday Collectibles for several variants on festive holiday scarves. Each of these costume pieces is unique, and there are three variants players of each faction can unlock. Once you have purchased a new scarf, be sure to visit a nearby Tailor so you can show off your fancy new duds.
Q, in his infinite-but-sometimes-misguided-wisdom, has acknowledged that sometimes the best gift of the season is fun. Sometimes the best thing you can give another person is a smile or nod… or an enchanted lump of mostly-frozen H2O in the face!
Yes, snowballs have entered the world of Star Trek Online, and players can lob them at their friends or their foes! But be careful who you throw them at, as the target of your chilly projectile will be able to throw a snowball of their own and may target you in return! It’s all in good fun, and the effects wear off quickly. There is a rumor going around, though, that says Q has imbued these snowballs with additional properties if they are thrown towards a true enemy.
When you first enter Q’s Winter Wonderland, you may notice a distinct lack of traction. If you aren’t careful, you may find yourself slipping and sliding everywhere! While disorienting at first, this unique effect will no doubt add a layer of complexity to completing Q’s ice race.
And if you enjoy sliding, exchange some of your Holiday Collectibles for a set of Q’s Frosted Boots. These boots will let you slide wherever you are – even in the tropical climate of Risa! Using the boots in Q’s Winter Wonderland may have other special effects. Only Q himself knows the true extent of their capabilities.
Participate in the holiday event as much or as little as you like – you can collect gifts every day, or just visit Q’s Winter Wonderland once or twice to slide around and enjoy the season. You don’t have to be omnipotent to have fun!
