Starbase Featured Project #1

From time to time, special projects will become available for fleets. With these special projects you can unlock new features to give your starbase more crew, more customization, and more recognizable features from Star Trek! Be quick, though – when a special project becomes available, it will only be available for a limited time. You must start the project before the end of the feature. Once you’ve started the project, though, you can keep working on it until it’s finished, even if the special event ends – but remember, you can only work on one special project at a time, so you’ll want to finish quickly to make sure that you can work on the next special feature!
Our first special feature is the “Room with a View”. Starbases are heavy facilities with armor and massive structural reinforcement, but the amazing materials of the 25th century – like transparent aluminum – make it possible to build a structure that can withstand the pressures of space (and even combat) while providing a scintillating view of the universe. Upon completion of this special project, your starbase’s interior blast shutters will be lowered. From the main floor, you’ll be able to look out into the stars in all of their glory. This special project will be available to start until around 10AM PDT on July 26, 2012.

Keep checking back to see what’s next on the special project list! We hope you are enjoying Season 6: Under Siege and we’ll see you in-game.

macarthur1961 @ Jul 20th, 2012 1:22AM
And now for something completely differant: Great job, folks!!! I am totally Impressed with the Starbases and with the friendly competition it has generated in our fleet. If you are havung problems with limited resources, expand your fleet...or join a big fleet like I have. We are more focised on this than on how mich it is costing us...and in our fleet the fleet leaders are putting in alot. Them and folks like me whom can be on 12-20 hrs per day.
jmgeloramo @ Jul 19th, 2012 7:42PM
Hello guys ... My fleet wanna make this feature but how do we open this project ... we dont have this on the special project list. Thanks
palpha2clearance @ Jul 17th, 2012 12:42PM
Feature release should not cost real money nor should content as per countless posts by dan Stahl boycott!
towani @ Jul 17th, 2012 9:36AM
So at around the current market dilithium rate, it costs you around $6.75 - $7.50 to have this happen. These special events should not cost dilithium... Have them cost some useless crafting thing we all have like 500 of... unknown alloy, or something like that
assimilatedktar @ Jul 17th, 2012 6:41AM
Did it by having all my characters spend dilithium. What did I get? Open windows for 200,000 dilithium and an insane amount of fleet credits I'm never going to need. TThe project does nothing for actually improving the starbase like giving fleet xp. What a waste.
gettorix
Um... that was clear before it was put there by the head of the fleet. If you are not interested in cosmetic changes, then don't do these projects. MANY people (Including myself) like these projects, and I have plenty to spend the fleet credits on. Do the cost benefit analysis BEFORE you dump the dilithium in.
captainaramda @ Jul 17th, 2012 6:36AM
Please keep in mind that not all people can be on at the same time. Most don't even have the same schedule. For those that can be online 24/7 that's great. But, for those of us who are students or work full time, the amount of time that we have to be online is limited at best. The current proposition that you can start a special project takes this into account while providing some measure of flexibility and fairness to all STO players.
kerigin @ Jul 17th, 2012 5:58AM
Do you have to start the timer on the project or make it active before the event ends?
zerobang @ Jul 17th, 2012 4:44AM
Trill Pinup Calendar for the Engineering room next please!
dracounguis @ Jul 16th, 2012 5:58PM
Why is Cryptic so in love with gated events?! Just put up a list of projects and let the fleet decide what it wants to do? Why all the hoops to jump through. Just let us play the freak'n game!
misoratkovac
I do not no why. I ask my self same question. :)
dean1012
right or wrong, my belief is that addiction is the answer. Quite simply, they believe by having most/all of the content gated or time limited they can force you, as a player, to continue coming back to the game indefinitely.
vancouger
Agreed. There's so much content I haven't touched because I'm not around when it starts. I haven't run a "Tour the Galaxy" in over a month. I've never seen the Defera Ground Invasion or the Vault event either. It's hard to get excited over new content when I don't think I'll ever see it.
phase325 @ Jul 16th, 2012 5:41PM
Making it so that people can start the mission on the last day the mission is offered, is not so good. We do not agree with this dynamic. The mission should be COMPLETED before the end date of the special event. As people can take the mission on the day it's released, put 1 item into one of the requirement slots and then leave it in favor of other projects. Then six months later decide to finish the "special" mission... making it so that they have a time to finish it by, will make people more vigilant.
neoakiraii
you can only do one project at a time, so if they want to do another project they need to finish it.
capm7 @ Jul 16th, 2012 4:02PM
Finally something worth converting all that useless borg salvage into dilithium.
fewzz @ Jul 16th, 2012 3:45PM
Who designed the floaty thing on the right hand side, sack him.
theindefatigable @ Jul 16th, 2012 3:41PM
My starbase has this and it looks great! One comment though: it would be awesome to be able to raise and lower the blast shutters just like you can on the TOS Enterprise interior! Lovin' Season 6 so far...not happy about the way Fleet Ships are handled (who is other than PWE execs?) but so far it seems that a good game just got even better :o)
ducklesworth
Agreed on all counts.
meurik @ Jul 16th, 2012 3:40PM
I doubt there are many fleets who would want to pay 200k Dilithium for a relatively minor cosmetic change. Just another way for Cryptic to scam money off its players. If you don't have the 200k to spend, they want you to buy Zen, and convert it to Dilithium.
latinumbar
umm... says you? This project was started and filled within an hour in our fleet.
kritheaxenos
Are those grapes sour?
brian1834
If you have a large fleet it shouldn't be a problem.
crypticarmsman
It think we had the bar filled in under 5 ,minutes (and that was with a max 10% donation limit per person that we've set in place to allow everyone in the fleet who wants to, to be able to earn Fleet Credits as projects get started.)
meurik
I'm not sour at all kritheaxenos. And i'm part of a rather large fleet, but we focus on things that matter abit more... like upgrading the shipyard, getting our trasnwarp gate etc.
topset
Shipyard/Transwarp gates are completely separate from the special projects, they are the main projects. I don't understand your outrage at all....
dariusmajere
Built on Both of Mass Chaos's Starbases. Project was started the moment Season 6 went live and I was able to get my chars onto either base. If you run your dailies all the time. The dil is a drop in the bucket.
neoakiraii
thats why one person is not putting 200K in, a bunch of people are, so its not big deal.
meridian113 @ Jul 16th, 2012 3:29PM
Why a starbase do not have a ode processing plant so that we can refine raw dilithium ore and add that ore to base building contribution pool?It would be fun.that dilithium would not be gone for exchange.
mickelntek
taht would be nice i know players with over 500K raw dil it takes ages to use taht up. why not make it so it only converts like 100 dil per player per hour or you only get 90or 80% of the raw dil you put in. i hope they make a dil refinery as Featured Project
