ambassadorstavok @ Aug 14th, 2012 10:26PM
My personal preference is that Lock Boxes be discontinued. I have tons of these and speaking as a lifetime subscriber, what good are they as a reward when they just sit in your bank? I can't afford to pay for keys. I have a lifetime membership. That should be good enough!
agyriamandrake
I totally agree! Gold acts shouldnt have to use/by master keys for lock boxes, maybe they could issue a Gold (reusable) key for gold acts?
darkice2012 @ Aug 9th, 2012 10:24AM
i agree that This is a free to play game and we chose to buy the keys to open boxes to keep the game free. However the point is that for me it is not free I pay the monthly subscription so for me it is not free I could be if I chose to but why should I still have to pay for the keys when I am already paying for the game.
shadowlordxsx @ Aug 7th, 2012 12:04AM
I will not buy a key for r/l money. It is bad enough almost every tier 5 ship costs r/l money but these lock boxes are junk. If PWE did like SOE with their lock boxes (their keys are 2x as much) and subs could open them without a key I might consider subbing but as it is I will not spend anymore r/l money than I have to on this game. It really ticks me off that I will have to spend money on getting a nice fleet ship after putting so much into a starbase, but wasting my money on these I will not do.

OK, here is how I see it. And keep in mind, it is just my view, and anyone else can agree or not, doesn't make a real difference anyway. But, the keys are not really a gamble per say because you can buy them in the exchange without paying real money. You get energy credits all the time in game, and you can use freely earned energy credit to purchase them. Granted they are pretty pricey in the exchange, but if you play the game properly, you can easily make enough in a rapid amount of time to purchase them from the exchange. So therefore, just play, put time in, and walla, you can purchase a key for "FREE"... yes I know time is money, but obviously if you have enough time to play the game, and you enjoy it, then it is time well spent. IMHO. I do support the game, I am a lifer to support it, but I get everything else I really need for free, everything else is a novelty.
bcsg9er
I agree. I have gotten several keys out of the exchange and one of them got me the Orb Weaver ship. This by far has been the best lock event to date. thanks STO. And thanks to those that post keys on the exchange. Got to spend those e-credits some where.

*Lock *Prize ...could Perfectworld add spell checker to the Forums please? :D
rickysmith1 @ Aug 5th, 2012 7:36AM
Perhaps Instead of loxk boxes they could have a market based on Quark Enterprises? You visit and buy things for Zen like you would a real shop, then they can have gambling wheels where you spend large amounts of Dilithium (paid with Zen perhaps) to get a random price. This would certainly get the whole Lock Box

The ONLY thing that Im unhappy with in this whole fleet thing is ( http://www.stowiki.org/Fleet_Ning'tao_Bird-of-Prey_Retrofit ) this fleet ship is a level 50 ship with 16,500HULL thats really really low for level 50. I dont know if this was over looked but it has to be a error. How could anybody hang in level 50 missions with hull that's made for a level 30 ship dosent make since ????? Why would anybody pay 4xship modules for 16,500 hull ???? the look/size of every ship makes since most of the time in STO. Its like a manager told a dev to make fleet ships buy adding HULL/CONSOLE/BRIDGE OFFICER on alot of level 50 ships (but the problem here is the Ning isent a level 50 ship to start with) so we are left with a level 30 to me 2 LtCom Bridge officer stations Dosent=10,000 to me the size of the ship would make it a little higher then the Brel

Personally I believe that the keys are like any item you buy in a game or in a store. WOW has game cards, pets and mounts. These companies are here to make money, if you so choose to buy these in game items, then that is your business. Any company that offers a game for free will almost always have items that cost real money, that is how they pay to keep up servers and the cost of development. If you really value the game I don't think it's unreasonable to spend $5 to $10 every once and a while to get a chance at something that the player themselves value. Stop complaining about things costing money if you don't wanna buy it. If you don't have the money to buy it, then don't buy it. If you like the FREE game to play and have the extra little bit of cash, then pay a little to keep the game free.

Agree 100% ... This is a Free-to-Play MMO. In order for the game to continue to exist and be maintained Perfect World needs to be making money off of it somehow. It's a business. If every player preferred getting these kind of perks in game the old fashion way then we'd all be paying $15 a month for the subscription.

fireroast @ Aug 2nd, 2012 9:23AM
well, i agree that they are a gamble, but not all players have insane amounts of money to spend on keys like most people who actually get the ships. the ships are good, but not worth a crapload of money or time spent on getting dilithium. i agree that they should come with a price. we cant really expect the stuff to be free in terms of time or money spent, but if they were on the cryptic store you would still have to earn them, it would just be a fair deal (unless they overprice the stuff on the exchange).
mad73o @ Aug 2nd, 2012 7:55AM
the keys are a trash idea, but they sell for millions, and i've gotten 2 out of 3 aegis parts just by buying keys with dilithium. besides, onem, i'm not gonna spend money to play a game i can play for free, and two, i play enough, i'll save up the stuff i need eventually. i play more console games than pc games to begin with. i'd rather just nopt complain
djoldiep @ Aug 2nd, 2012 7:34AM
dont know what your all moaning for these things are a choice, buy keys or dont, i got 20 keys and was rewarded with 3 mirror ships, i feel sorry for those who got nothing good but thats the price of a gamble. just be thankful the game is free and remember all good things come with a price.
spydadaemonic @ Aug 1st, 2012 7:44PM
As someone said above, I do think keys, should drop, even if rare, having to spend real money for zen, or saving Dilithium to convert to zen is a bit of a rip off ... but saying that, I did buy two keys ... got a purple doff in one box, and an orb weaver in the other, so for me it was worth the gamble, but ive heard people say theyve gotten nothing but junk and opened dozens
nigel2751 @ Aug 1st, 2012 6:15AM
i have never and will never open a lock box.why bother trying to get a ship that is actually rubbish compared to fleet ships.and with a fleet ship you get what you see and pay for not a gamble.at leaste you know you have one after purchase it .i would like a whip but i don't need one and i aint opening no box to try and get one. love how the game makers aim at kids and try to rob them of there pocket money. stick to buying good things in life kids don't get sucked into this.
reven000 @ Aug 1st, 2012 3:24AM
i agree i think the lock boxes are a waste of player time and money as a lifer i am sad to see my game reduced to such a pathetic waste of code data that give little to nothing to the players but profits the perfect world if this is going to continue they i believe that star trek will go the way of wow a complete loses
jethro777 @ Aug 1st, 2012 2:19AM
"Please keep your comments relevant to this blog entry" Oh - I will. PW - Drop the shameful, disgraceful, gambling crap from the game. Great way to introduce social problems onto children, whom, may I remind you play this game. Disgraceful. Clean up your corporate ethics. Trust fans to support you doing the right thing - but not this.
zhazy @ Jul 31st, 2012 7:58PM
well if u are interested..companies like this are under investigation right now anyway because the lock box thing is so close to a lottery that it violates federal laws for internet gambling..so hopefully perfect world will be forced to make changes in their lock box..god knows they need 2
ireallygiveup @ Jul 31st, 2012 3:23PM
I have never opened a single lockbox. I just delete them when they drop. Worthless gamble.
captlucas @ Jul 31st, 2012 2:10PM
about 70 lock boxes open. Never got one Tholian ship. Looks like I am the sucker.
kmainc @ Jul 31st, 2012 8:57AM
simple Drop the lockbox, who needs it, it's a waste of........space

I think they'd see a lot more interest in the system if keys were drops as well. At a ratio of , say 1 key to 25 or 30 boxes, players that otherwise participate might be coaxed into purchasing keys. Think of it as handing out the occasional free lotto scratch ticket - you'll spark the addiction in a few people eventually. Other than that, the price of $1/box is kind of ludicrous considering most of the prizes are substandard for the average player. Moving the price point a little lower might increase demand.
kingchimp @ Jul 27th, 2012 7:40PM
can't spell :(
kingchimp @ Jul 27th, 2012 7:39PM
I have bought keys before , but will NEVER buy any of them ever again . All it is is a rip off. All you get some useless crap, tats it. If you sell those ships in c-store i might buy them .
