Starbase Featured Project #2

From time to time, special projects will become available for fleets. With these special projects you can unlock new features to give your starbase more crew, more customization, and more recognizable features from Star Trek! Be quick, though – when a special project becomes available, it will only be available for a limited time. You must start the project before the end of the feature. Once you’ve started the project, though, you can keep working on it until it’s finished, even if the special event ends – but remember, you can only work on one special project at a time, so you’ll want to finish quickly to make sure that you can work on the next special feature!
Our second special feature is “Interior Designer.” While starbases are made for battle and fleet support, they’re also places where crew members will work and live for months or years at a time. Naturally, your crew will be more satisfied and productive if their surroundings provide an uplifting mood that reflects their commitment to exploration and harmonious aesthetics (for the Federation) or the warrior ethos and the celebration of historic victories (for Klingons).
Upon completion of this special project, decorations will be added to your Starbase’s interior. Plants, consoles, and panels will be made available for Federation Starbases, and statues and a special symbol will be made available for Klingon Starbases. This special project will be available around 10AM PDT on July 26, 2012, until around 10AM PDT on August 9, 2012.

Keep checking back to see what’s next on the special project list! We hope you are enjoying Season 6: Under Siege and we’ll see you in-game.

My fleet missed this project, because we were stuck in the "Symposium" project (had a hard time collecting the very rare diplomats due to credit prices). We have completed all the others, but I wish we were able to get the interior decorated. Is there any chance this former project will be run again? I SURE HOPE SO!
boyxaxa @ Jul 28th, 2012 3:16AM

chadhughes145 @ Jul 28th, 2012 1:35AM
While starbases DO have 1 "office" in them, it would be cool to have some practical application to the offices in the base. And also, what about the fleets that have more than 1 leader in them? For instance, my fleet has four leaders, that share the responsiblity equally of running a fleet. Do we all have to share 1 office lol? Overall looking great and I can't wait to see what improvements and changes are in store for the future :D....This was a great addition to this great *but sometimes buggy* game :D.
jumpingjs @ Jul 27th, 2012 1:48AM
I would love a better office only open to (eg) officers and above. Would be fantastic
megamanx82 @ Jul 26th, 2012 10:54PM
I would have loved to see a Conference Room of even a Conference Table in the StarBase.
fox1616 @ Jul 26th, 2012 1:13PM
wish this would be for player that like playing alone beause i have not join a fleet because they are to demanding and there is alway one that standsout as the A-hole-- the last fleet i was in kick me out because i could not setup teamspeak, but they didn't give me back what i had given to the fleet.
cworth1
Not all fleets are like that.Sure a good many are very much loaded with asshats and people you would just as soon strangle than even talk to but that is not the norm. You simply have to keep trying till you find one that fits you. For starters never join any fleet that just blindly throws an invite at you. They are ones you would not want to be in at all to begin with. Second talk to some members of a fleet you want to join first and get to know them or at least what kinds of rules etc they have. And if they have a website/forum join in there and get to know them there first before deciding to join. Just take your time and you will find one that you will fit into just fine.Just take your time and get to know the people first to see if you fit in and then go from there.
killamaster001
The fleet that im kind of in charge of is good. I say kind of because the fleet leaders only come online at late night so i run it during the day, and when he is on he don't mind sitting back and let someone run the show. There are no rules and we hav 440 something members so its not hard to get project going and its not to demanding and right now we should have a tier 1 base. We also have 1 meeting a week and im trying to get 1 of the members to teach pvp class/combat training. If you or anyone would like to join the name is wolf-pack or send a in game mail to @commmander123III yes 3 m's that is not a mistake.

The fleet that I'm in charge of is a pretty chill bunch. We dont really demand anything. Basically we're governed by the guidelines of courtesy, and respect. Ok sure, we get some smack talkers, but its all in good fun. We dont have any attendance requirement, since we do understand that life does happen and that takes precedence. My XO in fact took a vacation for a couple weeks. And, since we're a casual fleet, had no negative impact on his standing what so ever. Now in some, if not most fleets, he probably would have been busted down a rank or two, or possibly even kicked since he didnt give them the daily 5 hours of his life, but we're not like that. We even got rank 6's that have been gone since april. We dont mind, and dont hold that against them. I'm sure they got their reasons. Anyway, if you wanna talk a bit more, just get a hold of me at @gogeta1701. I'm the head of the BES (Borg Extermination Squad) and the CC (Chancellors Chosen - KDF side)
nightwatcher666 @ Jul 26th, 2012 11:49AM
I would like A) an office.... b) BORG parts (Collective needs to feel at home) c) if you don't mind a winning lotto ticket would be nice too. Other than that great job guys keep up the great work.
ace11656 @ Jul 26th, 2012 11:23AM
in the starbases the crew should wear the fleet uniform also. Dont you think?
nightwatcher666
That would be cool
bern9
:-) Good idea, upon teleporting all fleet members should be wearing the fleet uniform and return with their original uniform onboard their vessels
jumpingjs
My Fleet has more than one, so it would add other complecations
judgeslong
Think that is a great idea, they have been talking about that for your ships for a long time.
xastirx
I have noticed though, that when base crew use the transporter, they use the KDF animation for signaling a beam out.
jnohd @ Jul 26th, 2012 11:04AM
Can we please start seeing development based on factional dollars earned? Track Zen and if you see people like me dumping it onto KDF characters/fleets, dog-ear that for some KDF materials... or something. I know 16% is the expectation, but I'd need to see your data before I'll give up on believing you could hit 33% with a little effort!
markfalcone @ Jul 26th, 2012 9:07AM
Come to think of it, what if we don't like the design after it comes up? Is there a way to turn it back off?
markfalcone @ Jul 26th, 2012 7:01AM
Frankly, not looking forward to this. As a small fleet (very small... as in less than 3 active members even though we have over five members), these get harder and harder to do. Looking at a three year plan to finish the starbase, if not longer. On the other hand, I'm still looking forward to the day when we can use the Foundry to change around what's in our starbases and ships. Some ship interiors (particularly Engineering and Crew decks) just don't look right based on the ship it's out of. Also wouldn't mind changing around the Ferengi Marauder a bit. As I recall from TNG, the inside is MUCH larger than the game's version makes it look. And again I'll repeat a suggestion I gave on the forums: Race specific changes to starbases. I know, that's a lot of work. I'm not saying right away, just in the future at some point.
qwertyuioptius
If you are not prepared to accept the limits to having a small fleet, then join a big one. =P
markfalcone
Spoken as a person who apparently doesn't care what kind of fleet he or she is in, Qwerty. I'm a little more picky than that.
jnohd
I thought we would wind up with similar issues KDF side with Bloodbath and Beyond, but with some casual recruiting, and a little effort during events, we've managed to do fairly well. Reading how super-fleet players are getting shorted on Fleet Credits even with Special Projects, I'm starting to look for large KDF fleets to partner with, and allow fleet hopping for folks to come in and dump Marks for Credits before returning to their Fleet.
tostrekkie
markfalcone, players like yourself need to stop thinking about the Fleet as a "Club" of STO players. Fleets (like any military) are, by their nature, a large organization of members. If we role play for the sake of this discussion, should a fleet of 3 be able to operate a SB at all? I think not. At least not effectively as a fleet of 50 or more. Be thankfull you small fleets can construct a SB at all. Though it's my opinion many will become disallusioned and fail in the process. Cryptic dropped the ball when it said they would strengthen fleets with SB. To many players created small (or 1-man) fleets rather than joining well established fleets. Cryptic should have capped the size of the SB relative to a fleets size. 1 - 10 players would only be able to construct a Tier 1 base, Over 50 - Tier 2, over 100 - Tier 3
markfalcone
Have news for you Tostrekkie. Made the fleet well before Season 6 for the family. Some of you may think of a fleet as an "organization", but some of us want more than just an "organization". We want specifics that have a direct effect on whether or not we liike playing. Some love PvP. Some love fleet actions. Some just like the missions. Some are so casual they just pop in every so often to see what's new. Everyone is different, and most guilds I've been in on most games have one thing in common: They all have their specific goals that are likely to piss off a large portion of the rest of the population. In my case, I wanted to make sure my family had a family friendly specific fleet. Couldn't find one and was getting hounded by a whole lot of non-family friendly fleets, so created my own. Stop assuming you know a "small fleet" guy. You apparently don't.
aquitaine985 @ Jul 26th, 2012 5:54AM
I like this. I've taken people who want to join the fleet there and let them run about and see what we have so far. This is a way of showing that the fleet is organised and has the funds for such things. It would be nice to have some more customization though, I want to be able to choose where things are, otherwise all starbases jsut look identical, and thats no fun.
towani
I agree!
suburbanz71 @ Jul 26th, 2012 4:51AM
I want a office/ready room on the Star Base with a Fish Tank like Admiral Quinn has.
mikewendell
*shhhh* Those fish are actually the minds behind Starfleet. Don't tell anyone.... ;)
towani
That would be sweet!
jnohd
Oh so the FISH are the secretly hidden Undine pulling Starfleet's strings that the KDF has waged war to dislodge...
clearbeard
Well, Undine are from FLUIDIC space, after all.
poopbang
I knew there was something fishy about those fish....
punkosr @ Jul 26th, 2012 4:05AM
Last I checked Star Trek was an MMO and supposed to be played by joining fleets. If this isn't what yoru into then don't complain, go play a single player game and leave the MMO players to enjoy a game.
jnohd
Or join a casual/part-time/solo-player friendly, low-pressure fleet like mine. ;-)
bekstorm0cz @ Jul 26th, 2012 3:22AM
Hmmm .... if this will be dilithium based, I will probably "buy" this one fro our fleets, I just hoping Cryptic use our money in smart kind a way .... MORE FUTURE EPISODES.
vawlkus @ Jul 26th, 2012 2:36AM
Probably gonna miss this one. Shame looks like it might be nice. What's the chances of getting a cancel button to drop a mission/project? It'd make it easier to not miss missions you want
mikewendell
I believe you should just be able to replace the projects. I haven;t tried it but from how the menu works, seems like you can replace them.
azerdraco @ Jul 26th, 2012 12:53AM
I hope that these "Featured Projects" will follow the way of the "Featured Episodes" and have repeats sometime in the future. Some of these smaller fleets, or fleets that are created after today, would really suck rotten mugato milk to never be able to get these projects again...
mikewendell
You may want to check out the support forums. Featured Episodes are pretty much done with.
aquitaine985
Don't expect many more feature episodes. Ironically, Cryptic/PWE are raking in the money yet have decided FE's are now too expensive to make? Greedy bastards.
towani
WHAT.... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... I love featured episodes and this is the first I heard they're doing away with them. I hope it's not true :(
horridperson @ Jul 26th, 2012 12:50AM
Both projects add a lot of personality and enrich their respective spaces. I hope both sides of the house can accomodate these renovations. The Starfleet design is attractive but the KDF statuary has such presence. Great work!
ploop22 @ Jul 26th, 2012 12:00AM
Well we are building our star bases but very few have contributed and still at lvl 1 which is kind of disapointing when we have more than 20 members and a quarter are contributing the most. Third place by the way.
mikewendell
Give them a reward for every 10k of credits. Something simple like a Master Key. Make a point of thanking them for contributing. You'll have to keep some manual records as you go but hopefully you'll get some involvement.
babyruckles @ Jul 25th, 2012 11:14PM
So wait, you people are trying to say 14 days isn't a long enough time frame for a special project? Unbelievable...
kyhas1
Well no its only long enough for the larger fleets, myself, i am in a friend fleet of about 8 people. Only 3 are actually actively helping with projects and that last window project i pretty much farmed the dilith solo. Only managed due to earning Zen and selling it.
voltagexii
No, its not. I completed the last one because I had a nice stash of dil saved up personally, now I'm running a two man fleet atm, where I'm the primary and mostly solo contributor, They should make it so that 1 person, has enough time to complete the project solo if they wanted. I'm sure there are plenty of 1 man fleets out there, I think the projects should be tuned accordingly, 100k in 2 weeks is a pretty intensive grind for a single person, and 200k is impossible. As much as I hope the devs will do something about this, I'm sure that players concerns will fall on deaf ears as they've been doing for months.
mikewendell
Get alts Give them stacks of contraband Have them turn them in every few hours. You can easily do 200k of dill in a week.
clearbeard
Still comes down to limited resources. Contraband to alts works fine as long as the EC holds out. 100 EC per dilithium means these plants and doodads will cost your fleet 20 million EC though. That price tag is enough to tap out many casual groups in short order.
edwolf3d @ Jul 25th, 2012 9:00PM
Yet another project targeted at rewarding large fleets, despite aknowleging that most fleets are small and many are fleets of one, prior to the release of season 6. Where are the projects that are taking this into account? Why do i need to be in a large fleet to take advantage of the starbase system? I am pretty much a fleet of one, which I made to stop the spam of random invites to fleets that would kick me because I didn't play for two days or didn't contribute enough. I thought starbases were going to be an interesting addition, instead it requires me to constantly grind the same missions for rescources, doing the same thing over and over isn't my definition of fun.
palpha2clearance @ Jul 25th, 2012 8:37PM
We love customization, but we hate time windows and only one project at a time feels pretty gated, There is nothing to do except one tholian event (not gated)......stop making this game some huge time sink that is a grind and no fun.....free content and feature updates is what season releases are supposed to be about....some one at Cryptic fell of the wagon....time for some drug tests.......
korzan1
What content exactly is gated now? The Vault event for the datalogs?
rjewkes @ Jul 25th, 2012 8:13PM
Hey More Customization. I'll Give you a Kudos for each time we get more customization, When do we gett being able to set up an apartment/house on Federation planets and hang our old equipment in it. or an estate for klingons on any klingon world? Hang our pelts and what not?
painstix @ Jul 25th, 2012 7:13PM
I sure hope we see a dabo table in this project or one soon. Poker table be awesome aswell
