STO Gateway

Desktop
[UPDATE (10/19)! Cryptic Studios is proud to announce that the beta of the STO Gateway is now available to the public! Click here for full details.]
There’s a new gateway that will be available to Star Trek Online players soon, and it’s not a transwarp gateway, or an Iconian gateway, or even a trans-dimensional gateway to the mirror universe. Star Trek Online and Cryptic Studios are proud to present the beta version of the STO Gateway (working title)! This new feature allows players to remotely access their in-game status information via their desktop, tablet, or smartphone. In its initial release, the STO Gateway will allow players the ability to view their player status and equipped items, ship status and equipped items, bridge officer status and equipped items, and accolades. This list of features is only the beginning of what’s possible — there will be more features and functionality to come.

Desktop
This feature, and all of the backend functionality required to make this new integration possible, have been in progress for months. A dedicated team of programmers and UI artists from the Cryptic’s Core team worked with our existing, proprietary code and data – they sought ways to let a wide variety of desktop and mobile browsers access it in a way that is seamless to the user. Once that Scotty-like miracle was near completion, one of STO’s very own UI artists, Zachary Knowles, went to work designing a display to showcase the Gateway for STO.

Tablet
The UI for the Gateway is LCARS inspired and we feel very faithfully represents Star Trek. Players can seamlessly transition through all of the available tabs with a click of the mouse or via the touchscreen of a tablet or smartphone, simulating the use of Star Trek’s PADDs we all know and love. Simply using the UI makes you feel like you’re part of the Star Trek Universe, and I personally can’t express in words the joy that gives me!

Smartphone
The whole team is very excited about all of the possibilities this new technology presents for the game, and hopes everyone enjoys the initial offerings of the STO Gateway. Keep your sensors locked on www.startrekonline.com for news and information on when this exciting new feature will be made available to the public.
We can’t wait for you to check it out and we’ll see you in-game!

The Neverwinter Gateway already allows crafting (missions) and the game hasn't even gone into open beta yet. It's been 6 months. When will we see such useful functionality?
hype359 @ Dec 10th, 2012 6:11PM
Warning Warning Warning!!! Before you use the gateway.startrekonline.com remember to enter the secure URL location. It defaults to http and not https , so manually type https before the website otherwise your password maybe in clear text. Hopefully the developement team reads this. They should configure it to force https.

styrega @ Oct 26th, 2012 7:30AM
Its nice and usefull. But (of course its just released) it would be much greater if I would be able to manage my officer missions through the gateway!
nmrihmaxx @ Oct 23rd, 2012 7:01PM
So awesome, wanted this for a long time! I really hope you guys are working on an Android version and not just iOS.
magicdan69 @ Oct 18th, 2012 10:14PM
Wow, I have been wanting this from the beginning. I am sure it will grow and add more functions. If I could confirgure my ship offline that would be awesome, but just going over all my stats and accolades will work! I love that this game keeps growing.
cuteifix @ Oct 18th, 2012 8:51PM
its nice and interesting
gailzo @ Oct 18th, 2012 5:29PM

theultimatex @ Oct 18th, 2012 3:04PM
Please for all that HOLY ensure that this supports Windows Phone 7
dshot79 @ Oct 18th, 2012 1:13PM
You mention "desktop, tablet, or smartphone" I hope this would include iPhones/Androids, IPod/iPads as well. And the added suggestion of security of some kind iw a good note, especially if you're adding funtionality to management of said inventory, equipment, doffs, etc..

Thats what a smartphone is.
dkratasco @ Oct 18th, 2012 11:21AM
Mail box, I beg You let it have in-game mail box access.
paczok @ Oct 18th, 2012 10:17AM
Will it include duty assignements
tancrediiv @ Oct 18th, 2012 10:06AM
Standing bye to acquire the experimental software that will transform our Doff experience to one day rule the Alpha quadrant economy! Muahahahaha!
longasc @ Oct 18th, 2012 9:27AM
Fascinating! P.S. please make sure it works on Android as well, not only iPhone or something like that!

^THIS! There are more android phones combined than iPhones... sadly, optimizing so most of the dozens of different devices can run this might prove difficult (more difficult than the handful of apple devices).
flemingamer @ Oct 18th, 2012 9:07AM
Damm Good Idea (As Always) But It Would Be Cool If I Could Also Assign Duty Officers To Work From My Tablet PC
deeminisher @ Oct 18th, 2012 9:03AM
Yes , very good new design
pilotman1 @ Oct 18th, 2012 6:27AM
better question why does the character displayed, a vice admiral, still using standard issue wpns and personal shields?
pilotman1 @ Oct 18th, 2012 6:23AM
i like the design of it like the layout and everything
midniteshadow7 @ Oct 18th, 2012 3:06AM
Would be nice to have Fleet/Channel chat included. Looks great. If you're looking for beta testers... I'm in! :P
jesseerdmann @ Oct 18th, 2012 2:01AM
I hope we can manage fleets with this.
icell @ Oct 18th, 2012 1:40AM
this new set up looks like it's gonna be neat and easier to manage
roboticzebra @ Oct 18th, 2012 1:21AM
Simply being able to assign DOFF assignments, while taking a dump xP
longasc
I would do that!
phantasrs @ Oct 17th, 2012 11:55PM
This would be great if it could manage DOFFs, mail, exchange, inventory, etc. I hate spending my first 10 minutes in game after I log on doing all these little tasks before I jump into STFs.
kstudios @ Oct 17th, 2012 10:52PM
One major concern... namely, security. Don't get me wrong, I love this, I really do. My question however is what is to stop someone from stopping by and tweaking one of my character's stats/equipment while I'm otherwise oblvious? Will there be a certain amount of privacy involved? I'm all for it if it's like the "Captain's Database" we had in the STO of yore. Where basic info, captain, ship, and crew, was visible to everyone. Please please leave room for discretion.
don1701c @ Oct 17th, 2012 9:01PM
I like this idea and I don't own a phone or a tablet. I often grab the wife's laptop when we are sitting on the couch watching TV. Gaming PC is downstairs. Now I can check on my character, progress, etc. Managing doffs would be nice too.
