Chaos in Romulan Space
Sources in Romulan space have confirmed that the reformed Romulan Senate has collapsed and fighting has broken out on multiple former colony worlds.
“It's just as bad as it was before the empress took the throne,” said one anonymous source. “Without Sela to hold everything together, everyone is making a grab for power.”
According to Starfleet Intelligence sources, Empress Sela was last seen aboard her flagship. That vessel, the I.R.W. Leahval, has not been spotted for several weeks. Reports that the ship was “taken” by some sort of alien device are unconfirmed.
From what the Federation News Service has been able to learn, at least three factions of senators are now vying for control of the empire. Fighting has broken out in the streets of Sela's capital on Rator III, and armed bands holding portions of the city as “sovereign territory” for their faction.
It is unclear as of yet which faction will have the support of the military or the Tal Shiar, although a handful of individual ship commanders have declared support for a group headed by Senator Harmien.
“No one faction is going to be able to claim the title of praetor without the support of the military, and I don't see the fleets falling in line behind a senator,” said Anthony Rice, a professor of political science at the University of Alpha Centauri. “What we're looking at here is the final collapse of the Romulan Star Empire as we've known it.”
“I think the Romulans will survive as a species, but there will be definite changes to their political structure,” said a Starfleet officer who spoke with the Federation News Service. “We're limited by the Prime Directive, so we can't get directly involved to stop the fighting. However, if there is a chance to assist the Romulan people without making their decisions for them, I'm sure Starfleet will try to help.”
At least one group of Romulans is calling for a change that doesn't involve violence.
“There are too few Romulans left for us to fight one another,” said D'Tan, a leader of the Reunification movement that has been working for decades to reunite the Romulan and Vulcan species. “What we need to do is reject the culture of secrecy and deception that has defined us for far too long. We need to reach out to our enemies and call them friends. Most importantly, we need to find a new world. Our homeworld is gone. We cannot cling to the memories any longer. We need to find a planet where we can live in peace.”
As more information on this situation becomes available, we’ll be sure to provide it.

i so want to have a romulan character but i already have a fed character if i buy more character slots for my account will i be able to get a star empire character?

It says right in this article that some of the Romulans, like Senator Harmien, are still militant. So a Romulan playable faction is still possible. The devs have also stated that they hope to do it.

Man I am so hoping for a Romulan Faction playable character and War Bird :). . I would get rid of my klink for it any day.

I'm waiting for an actual Romulan playable faction to be created before I login in. Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty excited with what STO has done in the last couple of years, making the game more polished, which I think will be great for the eventual release of the Romulan Star Empire into. However, being a Romulan enthusiast, STO seems empty even though polished, when I play in the Federation or Klingon Factions. I'm glad to have both these factions in game, however, for myself and other Romulan enthusiasts, we will patiently be waiting the release of the playable Romulan Faction, before we start playing STO again.

my brother and I would love to play a Romulan faction and it should be a full faction. I love the idea of mini factions and it should be for all races as not everyone agrees with thier governments policys. more exploration and facion specific missions as well as missions that let you play any group of seperate factions together to complete the missions would be awsome. Also lets not make getting elite gear nigh impossible! no more lock boxes I have so many that i cant open as is and never gotten a ship out of them since the cardassian boxes came out. Please PWE try not to be world of warcraft!

The storyline itself looks interesting. But I really wish that you guys would do more with it than just making a BS grind system (not to mention, turning STFs into more of a grind) This game, and this season, have a lot of potential. However, I feel like you arent making the game fun anymore, just adding lots of grinding, no immersion ... it's easy to forget a story when it's just a backdrop for "do this same mission 1000 times to get this gear" Respect that we are here to have a good time, not just grind. I have my real life and real job for that, thanks.

I would love a Romulan faction, but I know right now it's kind of impossible. Because of the lack of content in Klingon side, if they created a romulan faction it will be alot worse than the Klingons. I would rather they first complete the Klingons than to make a horrible Romulan factions. Don't forget about other stuff when making a new factions (fleet starbase, cstore items, etc.). It's not just the ships, and ground base characters, it's basically a complete overhaul.

Agreed. Don't get me wrong I to would love a rommie faction. to play as or to kill rommies :D but come on get the KDF more better. i mean if the kdf has little content the rommie would have even less.. each new faction is gonna have less and less content.. if they can't get KDF up to par with the Federation then then there isn't any room for any new factions in STO besides the current two

I agree. would try the rommie faction if they came out. thing is KDF isn't even done yet.. i would say get KDF up to par with the fed in content then bring in a new faction.. if not each new faction will have less and less and less content... isn't me or are primary fed players to damn blind to see that?

by not even done yet what do you mean? kdf are only story driven mission/episodes short. which after being played once or twice rarely get played again??? i'd be happy with a full romulan faction with 10 mission and end game content. not just more missions to pass a fraction of time.... so what else are the kdf missing?

I assume you don't play KDF? there isn't anything really on there.. every thing basically has been given to the feds

i play both sides and i play both sides a lot. i play fed more but thats personal preference. i have 3 fed vs 2 klingons they all get plenty of play tho.

Love how the original poster of this blog....is attempting to deny "change". Tell me Expectadeth68.....what is wrong about people wanting change? The Klingons at one point were not allies of the Federation, but eventually they became one of the many planets of the United Federation of Planets. Why do you think it is so impossible and wrong for a group of Romulans wanting to FINALLY join the Federation? Change is part of nature, the Romulans who want change are finally attempting to bring peace into their lives and reach out to make friends. If you paid attention AT ALL...you would realize that friendship between the Romulans and Federation was already starting to bloom when the Enterprise E and I.R.W Valdore (Donatra's ship and her partner Warbird which flew along with her's), teamed up to stop Shinzon and his Scimitar from attacking the Federation, to which Picard had said to her "Donatra when this is over you and I will have to have a Drink." and she suggested "Romulan Ale captain". At the end of that battle, Donatra said "You have made a friend in the Romulan Empire today Captain. This tag team of Donatra and Picard happend in Star Trek: Nemesis, so if you want to just BLATANTLY disregard a possibility that has already been put into canon, then go ahead, that is your opinion and no one can take it from you, but you are very much so wrong to say that it would be wrong for the Federation and Romulans to be allies, not after the possibilities that were opened up thanks to Picard and Donatra's actions.

I agree Kaeaja you should be able to ask for change. I do believe that you should be able to change the story, since its inception STO has been Federation Vs The Galaxy. The idea that some romulans will partner themselves with the UFOP or join it is nice, because another force on the Federation side always helps.

The "culture of secrecy and deception" is what made The Romulan Star Empire what it is,and to change that in any way would be lessening them,AND the fans who grew up loving them ever since the original series with episodes such as "Balance of Terror" (speaking of myself there as well).I for one would NOT support any romulan mini faction who joins the federation...and CERTAINLY NOT one that joins the klingon empire...NO self respecting romulan would fight along side a klingon...unless waiting for an opportune monent to sink a dagger into its back....and notice i used the term "IT". Romulan fans want OUR OWN SEPERATE FACTION.This includes our own home space,uniforms,ships,storyline,the works.These klingon fans who dont wish to see a romulan faction are selfish.If the game had launched with just feds and romulans and NO klingons...THEY would be the ones crying for their own faction.We loyal romulans deserve NO LESS.Yes,the powers that be have decided that the romulans should suffer the upheaval of supernovas and political chaos...but as this blog stated,most of the fleet is undecided who to follow.Since Empress Sela is missing,bring back Taris.What we CAN agree on as romulans is uniting to defend what we have LEFT.We will rebuild on our own time in our own way...and not according to what the federation news service thinks we should do.I aslo think Gene Roddenberry would not have agreed with launching a "star trek" game without the romulans as one of the major powers in the quadrant,since they were during his ENTIRE tenure over HIS creation.Now we have to suffer the JJ Abrams curse??? Speak for yourself! I love the Romulans, but after what they did duringthe Dominion War andthe fallout from Nemesis, the Romulans woulddefinitely be a little more diplomatic toward Starfleet. A mini faction would be interesting, as long as we ALSO get the option to decline both other factions and can choose to remain with the new Star Empire Multi-choices are key, and there are three key choices here. I for one look forward to being a spy in the Klingon Empire ^_^

you saying the players who play klingon are selfish? have you ever played klingon and see how much content the KDF really have? KDF has really basically ten missions compare to the federation 30 plus missions outside the feature espsiodes... and you're saying Klingons are selfish? KDF starts at commander. I for once would love to see the KDF star back at worrier/lt and have the same amount of missions that feds have

A Romulan faction is a good idea. :) A lot of people mentioned the idea of a Borg faction, perhaps it could be a mini-faction where after you play the first mission/tutorial, you then get liberated and can choose to join the Federation or KDF.

i agree on this new story line...what happend to sela whats happening to the Tal'Shiar Star Empire...will the Federation and Romulans help each other to find her who know but loving the story line so far and the new faction good idea atleast theres a new one being thought of...do it and lets get this story going and find those Thorians as well who took her...i mean if theres a way to go back at the end of the Romulan Mysterys at the end of the lvl and start a new one to fix the portal so be it..its a challange something new and frest lets rock and roll and go for it yeah!

I think its just going to be playable romulan unlocks tbh. If the track record with this game is anything any story put into this game will be run over with a steam roller if it will make one extra dollar to do it.

How about, instead of a 7th season, you boys in the Dev team make a concerted effort in fixing say.. I dunno, the early leaver penalty in STFs that gets issued when its the game that is bugged for beating it early.. Or maybe the 'All' tab on the exchange showing differing prices from those shown under item specific tabs.. Maybe a more functional targeting system perhaps where the TAB button doesn't switch you to a target that is 15km away and directly astern instead of the target that is 2km infront and engaging you.. Just a couple ideas here, but I can assure you, I don't need new uniforms and broken content to spend money on. You want my sub back? Fix the stuff that is broken and I will gladly sign up again.

I fully support a Romulan faction! You don't even need to make bases and social zones, just let us have the ships and uniforms, that's it. And please give us the TOS Rommie uniforms! :D I'd pay Zen for that!

Where in this does it say the Romulans are going to be a playable faction. There are going to be romulan missions. (thats what I get from this) There is going to be a new sector block where these missions will take place. Come on Jamesburtchell...think

A Borg faction would be the worst idea ever. Please ignore whoever suggested it. I can just imagine it now; 'drones' sprinting across the Borg station, running from Borg shopkeepers to the Borg tailor, then over to the Borg exchange to check their Borg transactions... lol...

A new faction whould be great, and representing diffrent coloneys would be kinda like fleets exept the starbase would be a planet and u can build stuff on there, plus u can choose to side with the tal'shar sihar or something
