Duty Officer Pack Promo
By PWE_BranFlakes @ November 1, 2012 at 12:00pm

Chance to win a Jem'Hadar Attack Ship!
There are only 2 more weeks left to purchase a Reinforcements Duty Officer Pack! Before they are discontinued, we are running a promotion that will provide an additional bonus when opening each pack.
From today until server maintenance during the morning (PDT) of Thursday, November 15, 2012, every Reinforcements Duty Officer Pack you open will also include either 10 Lobi Crystals or a Jem'Hadar Attack Ship*! If you missed unlocking one of these vessels during last year's Winter Event or the previous Duty Officer promotion, here's your chance at owning one of the most sought-after ships.
*NOTE: The odds of winning the Jem’Hadar Attack Ship are rare but have been normalized based on the price of the Reinforcements Duty Officer Pack (275 ZEN) when compared to the Winter Packages (125 ZEN) we were selling during last year’s Winter Event. Ship details can be found at the bottom of this page.

Here is some information about the Reinforcements Duty Officer Pack:
Explore the galaxy and find new Duty Officers for your crew! The Reinforcements Duty Officer Pack includes many officers with alternate active roster abilities, including those listed in this Dev Blog.
Each Reinforcements Duty Officer Pack will include:
- 4 Common or Better Duty Officers
- 2 Uncommon or Better Duty Officers
- 1 Rare or Better Duty Officer
- A Bonus Item!*
In addition to any Duty Officers you receive, you will also get one (1) of the following special bonus prizes:
- A stack of Gamma Quadrant commodities
- A stack of Gamma Quadrant consumable devices
- An Alien Artifact (available in both "Powered" and "Unpowered" versions)
- A random Mk XII Very Rare Console
- or the jackpot prize… a Tuffli Class Freighter Ship Pack
- NOTE: With the above promotion running, it is possible to win the Tuffli and the Jem'Hadar Attack Ship from the same pack

Jem’Hadar Attack Ship Details
The Jem'Hadar Attack Ship is a small starship, similar to an Escort or Destroyer. The staple ship of the Dominion fleet, these ships were used with deadly effect during the Dominion War. Small, fast and maneuverable, the Jem'Hadar Attack Ship packs a punch that is larger than expected for a ship of its size.
Recently a handful of these vessels have been found adrift and abandoned in the Alpha Quadrant and both Starfleet and the Klingon Defense Force have been scrambling to acquire as many of these derelicts as possible for study. The ships are always found undamaged, but with all systems offline and registering unusually high neutrino signatures. The ships are models commonly seen in the late 24th century, but all appear to be in prime condition.
The Dominion has not expressed any interest in retrieving these ships, and has not responded to subspace messages sent from Qo'noS or Deep Space Nine. For now, the appearance of the Jem'Hadar Attack Ships remains a mystery.

What level you have to be to buy the reinforcement pack and what level you have to be to use the ship? This would really help since I recently started and I cannot find any inforcement whatsoever on what the requirement is to buy it since all it says for me is that I am restricted from buying the pack.
loudogg1 @ Nov 8th, 2012 7:39AM
I have spent over $150 trying to get this attack ship!!! I still have not gotten the attack ship. I am a lifetime member and have played this game for over 2 years. This is not fair and just wrong. I hate all these drop crap and they should just put all items on the z store. I dont care if the prices are high but at least you know what it takes to get the ship you want. People don't like to pay for someting and not recieve anything.
howtok
If u would have bought just packs for $150 =55packs and sold them for 4-5mil ec (currently the go for 5mil atm) each u would have now a jem'hadar ship for sure. About 220mil atm on exchange. But putting the packs on the roulette weel doesnt garanty u one.
borgeliminator
You should really not spend your money. I open something special each month with EC and I have had patience and I got an orb weaver in a lock box for one of my monthly lock box openings and I got a jem'hadar first reinforcement pack instead of a lock box :P.

i agree ive spent around 160-180 dollars and havent gotten shit from the packs really not happy with my return i see system messages all the time people getting the jem'hadar ship and all i get its junk
nyiad
Ha this doesn't filter swearing I see...nice. But in the end...you really shouldn't be spending that kind of money on a game who is run by scammers.
destroyer1701 @ Nov 7th, 2012 8:52AM
its just not fare iv played this game for 3 mounths now and iv opened 400 temp lock boxes and all i got in every box was lobi crystles and thats it and even through it said i had 1000 lobi the game would not allow me to use them
captainjay @ Nov 5th, 2012 1:28PM
In addition to my earlier comment, I think that in the case of lock boxes and "promotions" like this Cryptic should clearly state what the odds are of "winning" the exclusive ships in the box or promo. And it would be nice for the people that have spent "hundreds of dollars of pounds" on cryptic lockboxes or store items (like myself) to get a retroactive kickback either in lobi crystals or cryptic points, for our patronage...it would sustain and increase sales if there was a more substantial pay-off to buying these promo items, or lock box keys. I spent pretty close to a 150-200$ before I bought the life time subscription...and the only exclusive ships I got were 3 lame mirror universe knockoffs, and I have participated in every lock box event.

captainjay @ Nov 5th, 2012 1:14PM
Wow guys, you are all a bunch of whiney haters! This promotion isn't a scam...for a miserly 2.75$ you are buying a reinforcement DOF pack!!! In addition to the DOF pack you are BUYING; Cryptic, out of the goodness of their heart (and a lamely concealed marketing ploy) is GIVING you 10 Lobi Crystals (which you can collect and spend on other cool stuff - including exclusive ships) or a CHANCE to win a Tuffi freighter and/or a Jem'Hadar Attack Ship. And this ship promo is even in ADDITION to the other free-bees they give you with the purchase of the DOF pack (consoles, consumables, ect) which you can also SELL on the exchange. I can't believe you all expect to get SOMETHING for NOTHING...especially on a FREE TO PLAY game that costs thousands of dollars a month to maintain and build upon. Grow up people and stop complaining about lockboxes, keys, promo ships and everything else. All you're doing is clogging the forums with whiney commentaries about how Cryptic is out to "steal" from you guys! Cryptic is a company, and STO is a business vehicle to make them money! If you don't want to spend money, then don't. But please don't complain when your gambling addiction gets so out of control that you "have" to buy a 100 DOF packs just for a ship! Just don't buy them! LOL As for me, I like getting free stuff in addition when I purchase items that I normally purchase. Having said all that...It would be nice if all the exclusive ships would also be made available in the Lobi store permanently, or at least in a rotating schedule.

You hit the nail right on the head with this comment. There are so many immature childish people that play mmo's these days it's pathetic. They should all go play WoW if they want stuff handed to them on a silver platter without working for it or paying for it. Business is business people. Stop your bytchin and complaining. Grab a pacifier, stick it in your mouth, and just play the video game. No one has a gun to your head making you spend real money to purchase stuff. Be thankful you have that money to spend. Next time you're ready to complain, think of all the people that lost their homes, cars, personal items in Sandy. I live on Long Island in NY and I got lucky and didn't lose anything but power for a time. So I'll give you 50 cents so you can call a marine, he'll care.
nyiad
Whose the "whiney hater?" The one who complains about a scam or the one that makes a long RAAAAAAAGE post about the complainers?
foorged @ Nov 5th, 2012 5:17AM
Better put them in a lock box, I bought some packs and get nothing but doffs and some ´worthless´ consoles. I want the ship not the doffs. These doffs need to be exchange because you dont have the space for it. Payed a lot and doing a lot of work afterwards to clean your doff roster. Bad promo action imo. I will buy one from the exchange if the price is right.
coppershine @ Nov 4th, 2012 6:54PM
A scam is a scam no matter what its called or how its promoted. Cyber Scam, Game Scam, whatever. Also I'm looking at my law books, and for a game played by minors, any gambling system is supposed to be illegal, whether it be cybernetic or not. In other words, either this game should not be available to minors, or they remove the gambling. Its good policy maker in my state are not known for playing mmos, lol. Oh I know a few law students who would love nothing than have a field day going thru the implications. Now I got to review the terms of service and see what gremlins pop out

Won't work, it's not a gamble. You buy the doff packs, you get the doffs. The doffs are valued at X amount of money. The attack ship and other random freebies are add-ons.
siriusnorth @ Nov 4th, 2012 7:05AM
bought 10 packs and got my tuffli, great :)
cgjannek @ Nov 4th, 2012 4:07AM
Back to a serious question: Is there a chance to get the Attack Ship even if you're not yet qualified to fly it? I'm Level 33 now, so I'm one of the few around here who could actually use the DO's added through that pack. But still, I wouldn't mind getting one of them Bugs to sit in my hangar until I make Vice Adm.
boiro @ Nov 4th, 2012 2:15AM
remember that you are not the rulers of cyptic sto but in the perfect world international since it's a f2p game and everything is based on real money payments, and as in all games of this style there is a 90% item to get a normal, 5% of a good item, item 4.9 of a very good 0001 and a special item and unfortunately for the players is legal and not a scam
nierion @ Nov 4th, 2012 1:37AM
Ah Cryptic. You know it's funny, I remember way back when Cryptic always talked about how they were looking to make any of the items that were on the C-Store, attainable in game if people wanted to put the effort in and grind a bit that didn't want to pay to get it straight away or simply couldn't afford it. For a time this did appear to be the direction they were going in when the Emblem system was in place, but it looks like this has been long forgotten by Cryptic. ~| Oh sure, you can always just grind away at Dilithium and exchange it to ZEN.... now I don't mind a grind or hard work to get something, but when your working full time like myself and Dilithium is still in my opinion to hard to attain or even refine (still with the stupid 8k a day cap Cryptic, really?) it just seems impossible, especially seeing as Cryptic doesn't know how to introduce a scaling system for fleets and their 200k dilithium projects. Remove the cap on dilithium and give us more options to earn it, if you insist that is the only way we can seriously go about attaining stuff off the C-Store without paying from our own wallets. You don't have to make it easy, it's understandable for a company to make money but at the same time you don't want to scare away your consumers. ~| Re-think your marketing strategies cryptic and the mechanics of the game. You've made great progress with alot of things in STO but there's still a few things you have yet to rectify. ~| I'll be keeping my fingers crossed till then.
alpha153 @ Nov 3rd, 2012 11:54PM
one thing i would like to see is gundams like as a suddle fighter of flyable ship. lol
alpha153 @ Nov 3rd, 2012 11:50PM
o and on a side note if they did not have lock boxes they would not make the money to keep the game running and f2p

You might be right about lockboxes being the only way they can make enough money. However, plenty of other game companies are staying in business without preying on people's gambling impules just by creating quality games that massive amounts of gamers are willing to pay a reasonable monthly fee for.
alpha153 @ Nov 3rd, 2012 11:47PM
you guys relist they make billions a day off lockboxs due to the princible of gambilng addiction bacicly ppl get addicted to the thrill of opening the box anf finding out what the won and geting a ship id like geting a jackpot in an illiegal set slot mashein (meaning one thats far below usa legislated standerds and wen they put some one won something on ur screen its to feed the addiction by making you thinke "if he won one i can to " and insite ferther profit from a gambiling. but all in all i can hanndle the lockboxes at lest this game is still 100% better than big points battle star galatica online
nyiad @ Nov 3rd, 2012 3:16PM
So any type of pack or the ones via C-store only?
draco5734 @ Nov 3rd, 2012 1:50PM
not being funny but cryptic are on drugs !!!! I spent hundreds of english pounds ££ on this game and i mean hundreds, and in the whole time iv never once got one of these ships, a jem'hadar or any other ship for that matter, i only got one by a friend giving me the money to get one off the exchange this is a RIP OFF as usual !!!
grtiggy
And whos fault is it that you even decided to spend hundreds of pounds buying stuff that you just dont need? On a more serius note, post the actual chance we have in % like the 0.01% chance folks really have to get the thing.
radiantdarkness0
I share draco5734's feelings on this. The prize seems unattainable. Certainly at least by any rational means. (Despite being spammed every 2 seconds with messages saying so-and-so won a ship.) There is literally no upper limit to the amount of r/l money that one might spend and still not get the actual item that is desired. Some people (apparently) enjoy the uncertainty that comes with lockboxes. But there are others like myself who hate the bloody things, and who feel that Cryptic isn't playing fairly with us. Cryptic: Add something to the game to make obtaining the special ships something that we can tangibly work towards.
evilgenius180 @ Nov 3rd, 2012 10:42AM
So, we can basically spend $2.75/pack on however many packs we want on the off chance that we *might* get the ship. Wow, I'm so underwhelmed by this offer. If you get it in one shot, that's fine, it's only $2.75. However, if you don't, that's just more money for Cryptic/PWE, right? This is no better than when you were selling the Christmas "gift" boxes in the store last December, it's essentially the same ripoff. Instead of making us jump through hoops, just sell the stupid ship in the store for 2000 or 2500 points. I guarantee people will buy it.
qqqqii @ Nov 3rd, 2012 9:17AM
A lockbox by any other name... will in this case at least contain stuff I'd want and use. These, I'll buy. Do the same with all the other lockbox-only ships. I'd be fine with that.
azyurion @ Nov 3rd, 2012 9:06AM
10 Lobi Crystals and a very small chance of a special ship is not a good return on investment for this player. To be honest, with such low guaranteed return on investment, these packages are more like an virtual gambling system than a useful purchase. I definitely appreciate the addition of the Lobi special in-game currency, but 10 crystals is just laughable for a 275 Zen item. I would be all over this deal (even though, like most players, I don't really need the extra DoFFs) if there were 5x or 10x the Lobi. That would ensure a good enough return on investment in the form of in game currency to buy Lobi unlocks.
azyurion @ Nov 3rd, 2012 8:58AM
