Account Linking Required
By PWE_BranFlakes @ December 11, 2012 at 6:30pm

Our promotional account linking period has ended and linking is now mandatory. If you have not linked your account yet, you will need to do so in order to continue playing Star Trek Online or signing into the website.
NOTE: If you are using a PWE account, no action is needed.
How do I link my accounts?
There are a few ways. If you have both a Cryptic Account and a Perfect World account, you can link them together. If you have a Cryptic-only account, you can link it to a new Perfect World account, and vice versa. Below are various methods to link an account, please follow the one that best matches your situation.
Cryptic users: it is now necessary to link your account to a Perfect World account.
NOTE: If you registered for a new account after January 1, 2012 you already have a Perfect World account. If you do not have a second, older Cryptic account, then no linking is required and you can use your account to play Star Trek Online and Champions Online.
For separate, existing CRYPTIC and PERFECT WORLD accounts:
1. Navigate to the Star Trek Online website (http://sto.perfectworld.com/)
2. Click on “Register/Login” in the upper right corner of the screen
3. Enter your Cryptic User Name and password
4. Click 'YES' when asked if you have an existing Perfect World account
5. Enter your PWE User Name and Password where prompted to complete linking
NOTE: Once the accounts are linked, you will need to use your Perfect World user name and password to log in.
For a CRYPTIC account with no existing PERFECT WORLD account:
1. Navigate to the Star Trek Online website (http://sto.perfectworld.com/)
2. Click on “Register/Login” in the upper right corner of the screen
3. Enter your Cryptic User Name and password
4. Click 'NO' when asked if you have an existing Perfect World account
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to create a new Perfect World account and complete linking
NOTE: Once the accounts are linked, you will need to use your Perfect World user name and password to log in.
Occasionally you may see a message saying the account you're trying to link is already linked. This usually happens if you have already used your Perfect World account to play a Cryptic game. Contact Customer Service here if you feel you’re seeing this message in error.
More information about the account linking process, including a FAQ, can be found here.

What if my crptic account and perfect world account have the same user name? didn'y even consider that did you?
larryhmong
They didn't..I know this is STO but I linked my PW and Cryptic accounts that had the same name, I lost my original Cryptic account with my good characters on it :(
cyberat @ Dec 15th, 2012 5:41PM
All the self-righteous ding-dongs saying it's an end user problem, you are in the wrong. Many of us linked accounts early and ended up not being able to login to cryptic because of interface changes. I can login to PW but Cryptic characters are not transfered. Cryptic was my main with 4 chars. and Zen.
chucky3 @ Dec 15th, 2012 8:07AM
I wasn't able they Link my accounts because of dublicate PWE and Cryptic accounts with the same e-mail. I filed a ticket and in a couple hours, I had my Cryptic account back. Honestly the best customer service I've seen from a F2P mmo company :)
ajr62
just do a temporary password change on your pwe account and then you can link your cryptic account if not talk to support
cheroj @ Dec 14th, 2012 11:15AM
One of the advantages to this is getting rid of many idiotic players who are too stupid to see that this has been a long time coming and is no one's fault but their own. It will also help to get rid of duplicate accounts that spammers and criminals use. I'm glad to see that the future of real and true Trekkies has been further safeguarded from our peresecutors. My thanks Cryptic!
nasarogue
first dont call them idiotic two pwe should have bettter planned this and 3 i am a true trekkie i was vry glad when i got the game in store and installed but very disapointed with pwe forcing account linking so it is not cryptic's fault
nasarogue @ Dec 14th, 2012 9:35AM
pwe should have extended the account linking to the one year mark that sto went f2p
arkyboy @ Dec 14th, 2012 8:39AM
They have been promoting this for over 6 months then all you guys act suprised when this is posted
tyraint @ Dec 14th, 2012 7:28AM
All my characters are lost too - only like popping in to this game once in a while. Why all to hoohaa over accounts. won't be back
kritheaxenos @ Dec 13th, 2012 7:10PM
Months. MONTHS this has been coming, and only NOW that people do anything about it do they start complaining. Siiigh.
lcars9 @ Dec 13th, 2012 6:20PM
I have linked my accounts and when I log into the Perfect World account (because the Cryptic Account is nolonger accepting my user/password) ALL OF MY CHARACTERS ARE GONE!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!
h4x2tehm4x @ Dec 13th, 2012 5:27PM
I tried to log in to my PWE account I haven't used in over a year and it says it's banned. When I try to log in to the launcher with my Cryptic account (which is same name as my PWE account), it thanks me for logging in with my PWE account and asks if I have a Cryptic account. When I say yes and try to link, it always gives me an error. Customer service just told me to log in to the website with my Cryptic account and it'll ask me to link. That's the exact thign I told them I can't do, because it says my PWE account is banned. They said to edit my ticket if I still have an issue, but I can't LOG IN TO THE WEBSITE to edit it!
unkwnentity @ Dec 13th, 2012 2:04PM
ok so i cam back to this game after a 6 month hiatis and i find that i needto do this asstarded link thing. I log in with my cryptic acct info and am told that my email adress is ALREADY registered with a PWE acct. i DID NOT make a PWE acct so now i cannot play this game anymore because i cant link my email adress to PWE. i tried to make a new PWE acct and link it and was told i could not because that email was already linked this is bull
commodoreshrvk @ Dec 13th, 2012 11:02AM
I've got a friend who came back to the game, linked his account only to find there were no Characters there. He was a 600 or 700 day vet. After a few emails back and forth over the last few weeks no resolution. Three other friends had various problems linking, one was able to solve the issues himself, the other two are still waiting on Customer Service. You would have thought all the issues the community provided on the forums would have been fixed before linking was enforced. In the end, I think you just lost 3 of those 4 players.
falseflag911 @ Dec 13th, 2012 9:40AM
Any sign they are going to fix this? I guess this game is dead.
minmaxus @ Dec 12th, 2012 9:57PM
They don't seem to understand that the log in screens no longer ask you if you have a Cryptic account. I keep getting instructions from customer service to do things that there simply is no longer an interface for doing.
gallothrix @ Dec 12th, 2012 9:05PM
Bot of my account information is the same, and I was able to link. The launcher says no active characters to display. Hope that is just because I haven't played in months. If they are gone, and not able to be returned I just won't play here anymore.
gallothrix
I just checked this gateway thing, and all of my characters are still there. Yay!
gallothrix
I do think I should be able to post in the forums without having to wait a certain amount of time. I did buy this game retail and subscripe for some time. I think that earns me something.
dinglemud @ Dec 12th, 2012 3:27PM
I thought Cryptics customer service was excellent. The next day was an email with detailed description of how to reslove my issue. Well done Team. Its not like they didnt tell us, hell even bribed us with gifts to link up early and get it out of the way. But of course i had to be a meathead and "do it later" attitude. So dont be bitcn' from an obvious user end problem not Cryptics problem. From us who are grateful...thnx again. Dingles
crnijastreb3 @ Dec 12th, 2012 3:09PM
hey guys.. i think i didnt merge my cryptic and pwe accounts very well because i lost everything.. please help.. when I log in with my pwe account i need to create a new caracter.. OMG
oloring
any resolution to this? I am having same issue but I think I linked in time.
bikiniraid @ Dec 12th, 2012 1:19PM
Link up backfired on me and now all is lost also. Waiting for a response.
minmaxus @ Dec 12th, 2012 12:12PM
I think customer service is completely unaware that the PW website login screen has eliminated the option to log in with a cryptic ID. Their response to my inquiry indicated complete cluelessness, though it was very prompt.
mithralranger @ Dec 12th, 2012 11:41AM
Weldone Cryptic / PWE after been ignored previously after raising concerns about my account linking and receiving confirmation that there was no issue I have lost all charachters, ships and Zen. A very big round of applause for a job welldone.
jstagg @ Dec 12th, 2012 10:58AM
Waiting until now to do it and complaining? This is simply your own fault
elderdrake123
lol what? How is it my fault that the system they forced on me to me link went awry regardless of when I did it? This is just all sorts of messed up and compunded by jerks like you posting troll comments that contribute nothing.
tinlana @ Dec 12th, 2012 10:57AM
I get my acount back, so just wait for the support to answer your ticket! they will, and they will help. So just patience boys! :)
ussdanube @ Dec 12th, 2012 9:46AM
I agree with asarzero. STO has been advertising account linking promotion since at least August and warning at the same time it will eventually become mandatory. People who are moaning about having to link WITH NO WARNING can't say they've had no warning. You should have linked when Cryptic warned that the account linking promotion was going to end. That way you would have got something and all problems would have been resolved BEFORE it became mandatory.
minmaxus
Except that lots of people lost everything when they tried to link back then. I was waiting hoping that the kinks would be worked out before hand. I didn't expect them to disable all cryptic accounts with zero warning AND no ability to link with no ability to log onto ANY cryptic account.
ussdanube
Then Cryptic should restore EVERYTHING you and anyone else who lost something or everything. They shouldn't have introduced Account Linking if they hadn't ironed out the bugs. If they don't Restore, they should Refund.
leyvin @ Dec 12th, 2012 9:16AM
Some tips for those "Linking" thier account now... • Make sure you create your Perfect World Account Seperately! • Make sure if you have STO on Steam, that your Steam Wallet is linked FIRST • Link the accounts via your Cryptic Account Login, it is more difficult to do via the Login Screen itself • Linked accounts will over-write your Forum Account, anything you had on there WILL be lost • Always make sure you have a backup of your Serial Codes (available via your Account Manager) • DO NOT Link your accounts via Perfect World Account Manager, this WILL create a NEW Cryptic Account Just make sure you follow all the information provided on the STO Website, and you will be able to link your accounts fine.
innuendos @ Dec 12th, 2012 9:03AM
