STO Featured in Star Trek Magazine
By PWE_BranFlakes @ January 23, 2013 at 11:00am

In the latest issue of Star Trek: The Official Magazine, STO is spotlighted. Head to your local magazine retailer, or purchase the electronic version, to check out the nine-page spread which features an original piece of Trek fiction and a behind-the-scenes look at creating New Romulus.

I picked up the star trek magazine #42 and it had some awesome articles in it about STO, some foundry mission designs from Oliver Smith and a awesome story Under Siege! Oh and btw...cant we all just get along LOL

Too bad you have to be Vice Admiral to go to New Romulus. Takes a while to get to Vice Admiral if you have other things in your life.

Star Trek magazine is an issue behind in the digital release on Zinio... I look forward to checking out the new content further, for now though I am still trying to catch up on the rest of the game... Hopefully as this game gets more successful, PWe will allow Cryptic to delegate some more people to bug fixing and quality checking the existing content... Just needs some care and polish that's all.

Is anyone else SICK AND TIRED of reading comments from idiots WHINING ABOUT CANON in STO??? I mean, seriously people. Let It Go! Star Trek Online takes place in 2409 and certain future/past time travel scenario episodes and missions. It is all CORRECT as TRUE CANON because it has no effect on past movies or tv shows, nor the novels that are also considered "canon". Just because the game doesnt copy everything, doesnt mean its non-canon. Remember, these are stories told by people living in 2013 now, not the 60s, 70s and 80s - do stories WILL be different because we live in a different era, with a new generation of Trekkies joining us every day. Plus, its an MMORPG, so you have to use your imagination to fill in the blanks of what you dont like or disagree with. LET IT GO and BE G R A T E F U L!!!! We get to play around and adventure in a decent depiction of the Milky Way Galaxy, as its seen through the eyes of Mr Roddenberry and CBS Studios. Right now, STO could not exist and we could have NO mmorpg about Star Trek - so please, keep the whining to yourself. STO is an amazingly epic game and can only get better. I too get pissed about things. Im sure its not "canon" to have Vulcan be 1/1000 the size of Earths moon = but its a game!!! SO things are a representation and not everything is posssible or meant tpo be taken literally. S! and GL! _X

I know it! People throw "cannon" around and don't even know what it means. New Romulas doesn't contradict anything! So it's different than some would've expected, what is that called? Good storytelling! If you can guess what'll happen every time what's the point? From what I can see they think since the Romulans are unscrupulous people they'd never accept help or want peace, but we've seen good Romulans and it is ridiculous to think that there aren't many more or that the destruction of their homeworld wouldn't change the ones that aren't! I just thought I'd continue your rant ;)

star trek magazine must be getting desperate for articles lol... i found new romulus to be very cool looking, but fallowed canon about as much as lindsay lohan fallowed court orders.. lol..
captainpirko
define "canon"
puttenham
the fact that klinks are even allowed near the planet is a start.. (and i just got done with the klink campaign and tentiions were super high between them.. and suddenly they were gone lol.. the romulans were always zenophobes and i doubt they would ask for anyone's help... further more they relocated like a bazillion lightyears away from their old homeworld.. that also seems a little "off" lol... however, again, it is a good looking map.

"Surprising developments" hardly count as "non-cannon." This change was led by the reunificationists, a group of Romulans that are better neighbors than the others, honorable, not unscrupulous. They were never enemies of anyone, the Romulan Star Empire was. It's also not surprising that other Romulans would see the need for huge changes, their homeworld was destroyed for crying out loud! They HAD to pick a spot that was far enough away to be clear of all the infighting in Romulan territory, not that the current location wouldn't make sense otherwise.

That's cool - hopefully it will attract some more Trekkies to the game, and balance out the player pool a bit. Not that I have an issue with 13 year olds, but I'd rather run into a random Trek fan, instead :)
broadbandbandit
Man i have yet to see anyone play this who is 13 :P
trainmaster2000
That's me.

Well then there is the 50 year olds living in mom's basement in the OPvP community who whine all the time. I would rather deal with 13 year olds than those people.
castsbugc @ Jan 23rd, 2013 11:08AM
So, I have asked this elsewhen, but is there any chance that we can get some form of in game access to the stories that Christine(and Jesse) is/are writing in game somehow? Be it as a 'Starfleet Intelligence Update' that we can read in our ready rooms or some other mechanism. I would even be amenable if there was a CP cost to accessing it of 100 or 200 CP per 'issue.' I am sure I am not the only person who has issues finding a retailer that carries copies of the Star Trek magazine with any frequency or quantity.
slavafox
That right there, that's a great idea. My local comic shop carries the mag, but it's very specialized... I could see where a lot of people might not even know this magazine exists! Sad, really.
razizx @ Jan 23rd, 2013 11:06AM
Wow, STO featured in a Trek mag...
jaxjaguars @ Jan 23rd, 2013 11:05AM
Headline: "Creating New Romulus." I can imagine some people who are very strict with cannon to shake their heads.
blznfun
It's set way in the future from any timeline. How do you know "what will be" by saying this isn't cannon?
