Role-playing Roundtable Update
By PWE_BranFlakes @ February 25, 2013 at 11:00am

Hello Captains!
We want to thank everyone who came out to our first roundtable. We had an awesome turnout with many different fleets and role-players throwing in their thoughts and ideas. Click here for a summary of what we discussed.
With the success of the roundtable event, you might be looking to participate in a role-playing fleet or fleet division. You might even be thinking about starting your own! All groups need rules, so we’ve put together a list of issues that any RP group should consider addressing in their code of conduct.
Teamwork:
- Establishing Fleet recruiting policies
- Creating procedures for suggesting improvements
- Setting requirements to maintain membership
- Marking paths to promotion within the Fleet
Respect:
- Establishing guidelines on appropriate use of Fleet channels
- Policies on dealing with inappropriate character interactions (i.e. “god-modding”)
- Designating Fleet personnel to respond to concerns and complaints
Organization:
- Communicating a policy on Fleet contributions and Fleet bank use
- Establishing Fleet uniforms
- Defining acceptable communication etiquette
- Keep these general suggestions in mind while you search for your next RP group or try to start your own!
We will be hosting another in-game role-play roundtable discussion with Community Manager BranFlakes for the community this Saturday, March 2nd – all are encouraged to attend. There will be 2 roundtable timeslots: one at 11am PST (8pm CET), and another at 5pm PST (8pm EST). We will be having the meeting at Hathon, Bajor, and will be providing more instructions in its zone chat around the start of each timeslot.
We hope to see the great turnout to return with more ideas!

Well I was an rper I use to lead an rper fleet once long ago and it wasn't erp it was a normal Klingon to fleet but everything went ugly when the trolls came and robbed the guild I lead and flout about in there rpdenied.blogspot.com but however erp is one thing to complain. About but that doesn't give the right to go around insulting people
gornintheusa @ Mar 23rd, 2013 10:17AM
Well I was an rper and I was being trolled for playing a female character but role play is role play it's an mmorp game the Goons should know that
santodestru @ Mar 3rd, 2013 4:41PM
Opening a hailing channel to one and all: I believe we should have another server for Star Trek Online for the RPers, and this should resolve this issue. One server for PvE, and another server for PvERP. Most of the other major MMOs have multiple servers serving different playing styles. Where the players of PVE are not freaked out by the RPing language of RPers. Something to think about.

"Teamwork: Establishing Fleet recruiting policies Creating procedures for suggesting improvements Setting requirements to maintain membership Marking paths to promotion within the Fleet Respect: Establishing guidelines on appropriate use of Fleet channels Designating Fleet personnel to respond to concerns and complaints Organization: Communicating a policy on Fleet contributions and Fleet bank use Establishing Fleet uniforms Defining acceptable communication etiquette" Hate to point this out but in larger fleets these become issues. the fleet i am in is a group( 20 or 30) of guys and gals that have been gaming together for a decade or more. so its more like a family of friends. while we are willing to accept new memeber to our fleet that trust and respect must be earned. there is very little pryimaid buildingwe have a counial of 5 for making decisions on things that invole the fleet. but just like in real life there will be times just like in real lfe that you wont get along. if a game becomes too seroius that its not any fun anymore then u need to take a break from it for a while. i can think of one channel that takes this game too sirously and that is the ELITE STF channel. go read their rules for that channel. it never used to be that way. but now it is.
alfmanicus @ Feb 28th, 2013 7:07AM
I have seen rude players making demeaning comments to the beginners in the fleet actions, ground and space. Please keep your comments to yourself and don't play on open team actions. let the new players learn. It's only a game.
sarahgodfrey @ Feb 27th, 2013 2:05PM
how do u get in on the round tables? where and when are they and whos ship do u have to blow up to get in it
rsaumer @ Feb 26th, 2013 6:57PM
I would like to be able to try my hand at RP'ing. Would anyone out there be looking for a Starfleet Engineer that has more than a vast working knowledge of the Star Trek universe and who is also a lifetime member to STO? If so, could you please send me a message in game?
lexiss14712010
Captain Rsaumer this is Admiral Lexiss of Starfleet Command. I would like to take this opportunity to ask you for a meeting to answer any questions you may have about your request. I'm very interested in meeting you and that our negotiations will bare fruit for both parties interested. I sent you a secure request on this site: http://core.perfectworld.com/u/rsaumer At this time that is the only secure way of transmission. Take care Captain. I look forward to meeting you. Oh one more thing Captain....I will be attending the next Round Table event. Maybe that could be a good time to talk. Until then.....
x2064 @ Feb 26th, 2013 6:31PM
Wouldn't the Captains Table be an ideal place for RP? It was created as a place for Captains to share their stories.
jmmorgan211 @ Feb 26th, 2013 4:46PM
What about being able to fight in space in side your ship?
pmarek
Would be totaly astonishing. This was implemented in ST: Bridge Commander, where player saw the bridge from eyes of the captain sitting in his chair and everything outside the ship was displayed on the viewscreen - mission contacts, targeted enemies, etc. The commands were given by interacting with bridge officers (helm officers for flying to different system, weapons officer for targeting subsystems of enemy ship and setting tactics and phaser strength, engineering officer for power distribution, ... For those who didn't want it there was also an option to play from external (like we play now in STO). It was a 100% feel of being a captain and I only wait when somebody repeat that awesome experience it gave to the Star Trek fans. An absolute unforgettable experience.
stultus1980 @ Feb 26th, 2013 12:15PM
I really like the idea of bridge sets having more features, such as yellow and red alert with accompanying effects (smoke, explosions, etc). Would be nice to be able to change viewscreen images too. Other RP ideas for interior sets: ability to make 'typical' meals of various species appear on tables in mess hall, ability to eject warp core in Engineering, ability to lie on sickbay beds and have doctor run a scan, working holodecks with a variety of ground combat and exploration/social settings.
alinorametaluna @ Feb 26th, 2013 8:46AM
How about some actual exploration and diplomatic missions as part of the game's content? There used to be missions like that, re-adding them to the game would be a good way to easily add content for roleplayers without having to divert resources.
cmdrscarlet
This update is about RP ...
naval10
that's a good point, isin't?
shrapne11 @ Feb 26th, 2013 8:40AM
RP folks need to respect other players and not monopolize zone/local chat with their banter. If you want to RP make a channel for you and your friends to RP your butts off in without annoying the rest of us.
red01999
While you may have a point with Zone, there really isn't too much other use for Local chat other than using automatic emotes. If you don't want to see it you can arguably just turn off Local.
pmarek
And non-RPers can monopolize the public chat? Don't you think its selfish? RPers have reasons and right to use zone/local chat as you do. And respect can't come one sided. If you want be respected by others, you first need to respect others. As you're annoyed by RP talk, the RPers may be annoyed by your non-RP banter. Didn't you think about that? This can be solved however just by Cryptic creating a second global/local channel for RP - "RP zone"
pmarek
... and "RP local"
red01999
pmarek, you have an excellent point. RP Zone and RP Local would be excellent additions, and could probably be incorporated at marginal cost. Branflakes, I think this is something you (or the devs) should seriously consider, it could help a lot.
ravanche
Out of idle curiosity, are you one the multitudes that, one seeing anyone trying to RP, jumps on top of them and dances, breaks out the Q Anniversary Trolling guns, or just blathers on in txtspk 'u rp??? lol u r gay' Because that's what we get nine times out of ten trying to RP in Local. If you want to talk to your mates about builds, number-crunching or any of the other various MMO mechanics you have Zone, Team, Fleet, etc. Local is pretty much all we have if we're wanting to do open RP that any other RPer can oversee and partake in.
santodestru
Opening a hailing channel to Cpt. Shrapne11: You need to get a grip on reality, this is just a game. We all understand this game is designed for nerdy 13 / 14 year olds, who play RP games. And dont talk crap about respect, you think that you are the only one playing this game. What about you respecting the other players around you. If you dont like RP talk, then ignore it.
thebumble @ Feb 26th, 2013 6:40AM
There were alot of people at the last Roundup, and my RP opportunities have picked up alot since then. Hope this one is just as fruitfull as the last...
welsh10101 @ Feb 26th, 2013 6:14AM
Never knew there was there were' RP'ers on this game, if you do, let me know, I'd like to try my hand at this game in perticular for rp.
augustusranath
yah that does sound fun
wolfpacknz @ Feb 25th, 2013 9:53PM
Hope under "Respect" came Keep inappropriate c... out of public channels??? Tired of walking in on make out sessions...
darkomen78
very true I'm a RP'er myself, what bothers me is when people take it to the ERP (erotic role play) and everyone around them has to deal with it... makin out in game should be handled as it is in real life... in private behind closed doors... not everyone is a creeper and wants to get their rocks off vicariously.
akumawraith @ Feb 25th, 2013 8:22PM
Its good to see the devs interact with the player base, now if only the devs can keep thier word when they say they are going to do something and this game would become one of the few games that inproved and grew out of its shallow pool.
temerarious @ Feb 25th, 2013 5:29PM
Would be nice to know about what time so that I can plan my day accordingly so I can attend.
ufstampa @ Feb 25th, 2013 3:04PM
I would like to come to the next one, would like to put my 2cents in. I enjoy the Star Trek to STO experience!
